Installation for free standing bathtub faucet

Ask a Plumber

Hi, my husband installed the free standing bathtub faucet.  Before he made sure that the water supply was coming through the hot and cold water hoses that slide in the long pipe to attach to faucet.  Everything was working.  He then set up the faucet but as he turned on the water, there was only a slow leak from the cold water.  What can he do?

  1. Sometimes, when we shut off the water then turn it back on to a house it dislodges sediment in the water lines. This sediment can plug up the cartridges or aerators in a faucet. My recommendation to start would be to turn the water off again and take the cartridge out of the faucet and clean any sediment out. I would also take off the aerator and clean it out. Slowly turn the water back on to minimize disrupting additional sediment.
