Irrigation connection exposed to open environment

Ask a Plumber

Recently had an irrigation connection installed in preparation to an install irrigation system in our yard. The faucet is exposed to the open environment, no cap has been provided. Is this the standard installation practice? Are there any adverse consequences to leaving the connection exposed?

  1. It is important in all irrigation installations that the shutoff for water supply be properly isolated and insulated from the potential of freezing. If it has not been, in the colder months there is the potential of freezing and doing damage to your system.
