Shower tap will not turn off

Ask a Plumber

Moen shower will not shut off. The gasket has been changed many times and it still will not turn off. What can be done to fix this?

Answer ( 1 )

  1. It sounds like the body of the shower tap has worn out. Over time, as a tap starts to leak, the water that is getting by can create a groove in the metal body of the tap. This groove can be ever so slight (thousands of an inch) but enough for water to squeeze by. To fix this, you will need to replace the whole shower tap.
